Early Beethoven
22nd - 24th January 2027
Nynorskens hus, Oslo

An incredible opportunity to really get to know the young Ludwig van Beethoven, from the age of 11 until he was about 32. How did this extraordinary genius’s journey begin? How bumpy was the ride? Beethoven’s early works are firmly rooted in the Viennese Classical tradition and include many much-loved masterpieces such as the Pathétique and Moonlight sonatas.

The Engegård Quartet will be joined by highly respected Norwegian and international musicians, including Dénes Várjon, Maria Włoszczowska and Nikita Khnykin. There will also be collaborative projects with Norway’s national theatre company for deaf actors and dancers from The Norwegian National Ballet. Last but definitely not least, we are looking forward to presenting a family concert.

The festival will include seven concerts from Friday to Sunday. individual concert tickets will be released in autumn 2026.

Festival hosts

The Engegård Quartet has been directing and hosting the classical minifestival “1-2-3…” since 2016 when they started with 1-2-3 Schumann.

Formed under the midnight sun in Lofoten in 2005, the Engegård Quartet has rapidly become one of Norway’s most sought after ensembles. Their bold, fresh interpretations of the classical repertoire combined with a deep attachment to their Scandinavian roots has attracted international acclaim, and inspired some innovative partnerships and programming.
